Otley Chamber Orchestra
Conductor – Aljosa Skorja
OCO considers itself to be very lucky indeed in obtaining the services of talented young Slovenian Conductor, Aljosa Skorja. He studied first at the University of Ljubljana, and then on a Scholarship at the Royal Northern College of Music. He has taken part in organ and conducting masterclasses and has considerable experience conducting both choral and orchestral works.
Leader – Chris Hodges
Since its foundation in January 2009, the Otley Chamber Orchestra has rehearsed fortnightly at the Courthouse Arts Centre. Members come from Otley and surrounding areas and numbers have grown to over 50 experienced and capable players.
Experienced new String and Brass players welcome. The Woodwind places are currently full but we keep a ‘waiting list’ of extra players who may get a chance to cover absences or for join in larger works.
The Orchestra’s Spring Concert will be on 22nd May 2016 at Wesley Hall, Boroughgate, Otley at 7.30pm.
At previous concerts the Orchestra has performed:
17th May 2015: Weber Overture Euryanthe; Beethoven Symphony No 1; Dvorak Symphony No 8
17th May 2014: Weber Overture Der Freischutz; Haydn Symphony 99; MacCunn Land of the Mountain and the Flood; Tchaikovsky Swan Lake
28th April 2013: Schubert Overture Rosamunde; Beethoven Symphony No 2; Mendelssohn Violin Concerto
Here are some audience reactions:
“My parents who came along to support us last night thoroughly enjoyed the concert & they commented on how much we’d improved compared to last year’s concert. My father was particularly complimentary about the woodwind!”
“My 7 year old son came and really loved it. He liked the flutes especially!”
“VERY WELL DONE TO YOU ALL. The orchestra has come on a very long way!!”
